Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates and focuses on improving alignment, strength and flexibility in a controlled manner. ‘Clinical Pilates’ is taught by a qualified Physiotherapist. The advantage is by combining the Pilates method with the Physiotherapist’s knowledge of exercise, routines can be modified to meet the needs of the individual and accommodate imbalances or injuries. Claire’s Pilates training was delivered by the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI).

Prior to beginning Clinical Pilates an assessment will be carried out including medical history and goals and the 5 key elements of Pilates will be taught:- breathing, centering, rib-cage placement, shoulder blade placement and head/neck placement.
